Life in the Shadows
Very little is known about the organization by those who are not part of the organization. In fact, even those in the Way quite often know very little about it. Some operatives do not even know they are part of the Way. This is, of course, by design. It keeps the organization from being infiltrated. Even if a member is captured and interrogated, there is very little information that can be gained.
The leadership of the organization is a complete unknown, except to the leadership it’s self. Membership is taken from kings to beggars. Social rank has no bearing on the status of the group. A nobleman may be part of a cell that is handled by a common farmer.
The social, political and economic reach of the group is vast. The organization, through it’s members, controls farms, inns, armies, guilds and fiefdoms across the known lands. As would be expected this influence is subtle. Crimson operatives could be staying at an inn of the Way and be unaware. The true extent of the influence is a mystery beyond the operatives of a cell.
Members typically only know a handful of others who are Crimson operatives. Those people are members of the same cell. Cells usually operate with one to six members of a varied skill set. A single handler guides each cell. The handler directs the cell on Way missions and serves as a source of information when needed. It is assumed that each handler is member of another cell, which is in turn guided by a handler, but that is speculation for the most part.
Traitors, informants and/or turncoats are treated quickly and violently from within the organization. When treachery is discovered, word goes out and the source is dealt with in a manner so as to dissuade similar situations in the future.
